Folkestone & Faversham Osteopathy

Whatever your movement needs, we can help you reach your goals

Does your knee ache or give you sharp pains on certain movements?

Is bending the knee painful?

Does it feel like your knee could give way from underneath you, or lock in place?

Is it clicking or crunching more than the other side?

Yes… knees are not subtle when they aren’t happy ! Knee pain can be very intense, especially when walking or standing for long periods of time and is frequently associated with musculoskeletal weaknesses in the hip joint.

The knee joint relies heavily on the support from muscles and ligaments for its strength. Whether you are suffering with a general ache or sports injury and want to get back to pain free activities such as walking the dog, easy day to day function or playing sport, we are here to help !

Our holistic osteopathic assessments will identify the precise issue with your knee and any adaptations in other areas. Effective hands on treatments will restore balance across the knee, keeping you out of pain and able to get back to pain free movement.

Knee Conditions Treated

Our osteopaths are able to diagnose knee problems and will thoroughly assess your knee when you attend.
However, if you already have a diagnosis, we will be able to help with a number of knee conditions including:

  • Minor Sports Injuries
  • Tendonitis
  • Muscle strains
  • Minor ligament sprains
  • Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome
  • Quadriceps issues / Quads
  • Iliotibial IT band Syndrome
  • Referred Pain
  • General aches and Pains
  • Knee Joint Pain
  • Knee Arthritis or Osteoarthritis (please see below)

It is possible to get back to what you love doing without recurrent knee pain !

If you’re a runner or sportsperson in a field that requires quick changes of direction, jumping, or twisting, your knees need to be nice and strong to support your function on the field or in the gym.

Our Osteopaths are also able to help support you in recovering strength in the knee joint and self confidence in your abilities for a seamless return to sport.

At Faversham Osteopathy and Folkestone Osteopathy, our osteopaths will assess your knee joint and functionally assess the adjacent joints of the hip and ankle to come to a clear conclusion of the underlying cause of the problem, treating the root cause, not just the symptoms.

Exercises and lifestyle advice will also be provided by our clinically trained Osteopaths to ensure your knee stays out of trouble long-term and that you feel able to manage any flare-ups should they occur during your recovery.

Knee myth busting

1. “Rest will help my knee get better”  Χ

Most causes of knee pain will require integrating activity and exercises to help decrease the pain levels.

2. “All knee pain is related to the joint, now my knee hurts, I will need a replacement eventually”  Χ

There are many other causes of pain in the knee, such as muscle referral, tendon issues and biomechanical misalignment down the leg.

3. “Runners and active people are more likely to have problems with their knees as they get older”  Χ

The cartilage turnover process (new cartilage being laid down) has been found to be more active in runners, suggesting that activity acts as a protective factor for the knee, especially in terms of the cartilage and joint.

Natural Care for Knee Osteoarthritis

Lower back pain management treatments with Folkestone and Faversham Osteopathy

Have you been diagnosed with Knee Osteoarthritis, but would like to try natural methods of holistic management before considering more mainstream options?

Osteopathy can help to manage pain associated with knee arthritis, using pain modulation techniques and easing the tension in the muscles. We can also assist you in maintaining strength to support the knee joint, helping you to get the most day to day function you can for the longest time, ensuring you have more good days than bad.

As well as gentle articulations and soft tissue techniques involved in osteopathic manipulative therapy, some of our team are qualified to provide Dry Needling, which is also a useful option for pain relief.

Even if you are awaiting surgery, we are able to provide non-invasive drug free options for pain management and function preservation in the meantime.

Our Commitment

Here at Faversham Osteopathy and Folkestone Osteopathy, we ensure you have a thorough assessment as routine, to rule out any serious cause of hip pain first. Should we be at all concerned, we will refer you swiftly to other services (either NHS or private). However, in most cases, this will not be necessary, and we will be able to get you feeling more comfortable with hands on treatment and exercise rehabilitation.

What Is Cranial Osteopathy (& Does It Work?)

It’s gentle, non-invasive, and often used with babies – but cranial osteopathy is powerful for adults too. By working with the nervous system, it helps release deeply held tension and supports the body’s natural rhythm of healing.

Why Osteopathy Isn’t Just for Back Pain

Most people think of osteopathy for lower back pain – and yes, we treat that daily – but it can also support everything from tension headaches and jaw pain to digestive discomfort and postural imbalances. Osteopathy looks at how your whole body works together, not just isolated symptoms.

5 Signs Your Body’s Asking for Help

Aches that come and go. Stiffness first thing in the morning. Headaches after a long day at your desk. These niggles are your body’s way of waving a red flag. Don’t ignore them – early support can make all the difference.
