Natural Relief for Sciatica—Move Freely Again
Literally, a pain in the butt AND down the leg…jokes aside, Sciatica is extremely painful and can play havoc with your day to day lives should you find yourself struck down by it. Other symptoms include tingling or numbness in your leg or foot and associated back pain.
Our osteopaths are fully qualified to assess the sciatic nerve and will carry out a thorough clinical examination, including tests of the lower back, pelvis, hips, and surrounding structures. This helps us pinpoint the source of your discomfort and tailor treatment to support natural healing and restore mobility.
We identify and treat the cause of the sciatica(for example, inflammation, disc herniations or piriformis syndrome) as well as desensitising the nerve itself through precise neural techniques and exercises.
At Faversham Osteopathy and Folkestone Osteopathy, we are experienced in treating sciatica, offering hands on manual therapy as a drug-free non-invasive treatment approach and exercises specifically designed to improve the nerve function.
Some of our osteopaths also offer Dry Needling, which is a good option for sciatica and can assist greatly in pain relief if pain is the main symptom.
Gentle & Effective
Our treatments are both gentle but effective in easing the tension on the sciatic nerve, easing the pain and stopping the altered sensations such as pins and needles in just a few treatments, with most people feeling better after the first session.
We will also monitor the nerve carefully each treatment and should we think further investigation is required, we will refer you onwards. However, in most cases, sciatica can be well managed by Osteopaths without the need for further interventions or referral.

Did you know?
Contrary to popular belief, the majority of cases of Sciatica are caused by local inflammation, rather than direct compression on the nerve.
The nerve is irritated by inflammation, causing symptoms that we know as Sciatica.
Our osteopaths will conduct a thorough examination and case history, to determine the cause of YOUR symptoms, putting together a personalised treatment and management plan.
You don’t have to live with sciatica pain.
With expert care and personalised support, we’ll work with you to ease the pain and get you moving comfortably again.
Our Commitment
Here at Faversham Osteopathy and Folkestone Osteopathy, we always ensure you have a thorough assessment as routine, to rule out any serious cause of shoulder pain first. Our osteopaths are fully trained primary healthcare and allied health professionals, trained to screen for pathology. Should we be at all concerned, we will refer you swiftly to other services (either NHS or private) for further investigation.

With inflamed nerves in my back causing pain and difficulty with the femoral nerve in my right leg, my osteopath today really worked on it. Thorough, professional and did what she could. I recognise that inflamed nerves don't calm down in one session and that it takes time. I know what she did will add a much more speedy recovery and realistic result. So grateful she was able to see me today. Thank you!

Tamsyn has been of tremendous help both physically and mentally in getting me mobile again, I can’t thank her enough.

What Is Cranial Osteopathy (& Does It Work?)
It’s gentle, non-invasive, and often used with babies – but cranial osteopathy is powerful for adults too. By working with the nervous system, it helps release deeply held tension and supports the body’s natural rhythm of healing.
Why Osteopathy Isn’t Just for Back Pain
Most people think of osteopathy for lower back pain – and yes, we treat that daily – but it can also support everything from tension headaches and jaw pain to digestive discomfort and postural imbalances. Osteopathy looks at how your whole body works together, not just isolated symptoms.
5 Signs Your Body’s Asking for Help
Aches that come and go. Stiffness first thing in the morning. Headaches after a long day at your desk. These niggles are your body’s way of waving a red flag. Don’t ignore them – early support can make all the difference.
